New course record at Grey Silo...

On Sunday, May 15 Grey Silo held their Member's Opening Field Day.  Over 50 golfers braved the cold, wind, and rain to compete in the team scramble event that followed the buffet breakfast upstairs in the Timber Room.  The winning score was a 7 under par 64, shot by the threesome of Dean France, Mark Wilder and Dave Johnson.  Thanks to those that were able to make it out!

Our next Member's event will be Sunday, June 19.  This event will be open to all Grey Silo Members.  This event will be a 2-person Better Ball handicapped format.  Cost of this event will be $25 per person which will include prizes, as well as lunch to follow.  There will be a modified shotgun beginning at 8 a.m.  All players will play from the gold tees (ladies from the bronze).  Each player will be given strokes on the appropriate handicap holes, based on 75% of your handicap, calculated using the new Golf Canada handicapping system that GolfNorth has implemented for all their lacations.  Your two-person team will then take the best net schore of the two for each hole.  Member's are to sign up as a two person team, or as a single as the pro shop will then pair them up accordingly.

In other course news, on Tuesday, May 17 a new course record was set at Grey Silo.  Garrett Rank from Elmira, Ontario fired a blistering 63 on a windy and rainy day.  His round started very ordinary, however a stretch of 8 birdies in 9 holes in the middle of his round allowed for him to break the previous record of 64 set back in 2002.

Ladies League

Welcome back to our returning Ladies and a very warm welcome to all of our new Ladies joining the league this year.  We hope everyone had a great winter and we are looking forward to another great year of golf!

PRO'S TIP OF THE DAY

Putt five balls from four different poins around the hole all from 3 to 5 feet and watch your scores plummet.

Five in a Row
If your distance control is good on lag putts, you should leave youself a lot of short second putts.  And if you're confident making 3 to 5 footers, you'll definitely save some shots and lower your scores.

To sink more short putts, lower your scores and boost your confidence, try this simple drill:  Take five balls and try to make five in a row from four different points around the hole.  It might take you a while the first time you try it, but if you stick with the drill, you'll gain confidence that you can make those "knee knockers" the next time you play.

Once you get really good at this drill, move back a foot or two and challenge yourself.  One of the reasons the Tour pros rarely miss from this distance is that they practice these putts a lot.  You should too!

Burford Hole-In-One's (Yes...plural!)

Larry Rodrigue scored a hole-in-one on #7 152 yards with a 7 iron on May 13th.  Jean Dupius and Dion Simon witnessed it.  Looks like we had another ace as well on May 9.  Doug Johnson on hole #11 with an 8 iron.  Keep up the excellent play and congratulations once again.

Just a reminder that Match Play starts May 29 so check with Cory in the pro shop for times and rules.
